After suffering a lower body injury in the third period of Game 3 last week in Montreal, we finally have an update on Sam Montembeault.
The Canadiens have an update regarding goaltender Sam Montembeault.
The Montreal Canadiens are expected to release an official update today but according to sources, Montembeault is believed to have suffered two tears in his thigh. He's expected to be out for several weeks at the minimum.
Here's what Marc-Olivier Beaudoin reported earlier today on X.
Here's Beaudoin's report translated in English...
This is the second person who has said this to me this morning. Subject to change, Samuel Montembeault has two tears in his thigh, he has been recommended 14 days of rest and a gradual return to training, but his chances of returning to the playoffs are almost non-existent, regardless of the course of the Canadiens.
Additionally, radio host and journalist Jeremy Filosa also reported this afternoon that Sam Montembeault did not travel with the team to Washington ahead of tomorrow's do-or-die Game 5.
Tous les joueurs du @CanadiensMTL font le voyage à Washington mis à part Montembeault. Alex Carrier demeure un cas douteux pour demain.
At 28, Montembeault had been playing well in his playoff debut, posting a 0-1-1 record in the 2025 playoffs with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.
The Canadiens will have no choice but to rely on backup goaltender
Jakub Dobes who has been fairly decent for Montreal this season, posting a 7-4-3 record with a GAA of 2.74 and a SV% of .909 in the regular season.
