The Washington Capitals defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in Game 1 of their first round matchup on Monday. All three of the Capitals' goals were scored by their first line of Dylan Strome, Alex Ovechkin and Anthony Beauvillier.
Capitals forward Anthony Beauvillier is subbing in on that top line and seems to be finding his stride alongside captain Alex Ovechkin.
Beauvillier is filling in for
Aliaksei Protas who remains sidelined with an injury. Based on how well the top line performed collectively in Monday night's overtime victory, Beauvillier may force head coach Spencer Carbery to make a tough choice once Protas is ready to return.
Here's what Beauvillier had to say when asked about playing on a line with Alex Ovechkin.
«I don't think people realize how smart he is on the ice-just positioning and the way he can make little plays that go unseen. It makes it easy for his linemates» - Anthony Beauvillier on playing with Alex Ovechkin; each set the other up for a goal in Game 1 #ALLCAPS
Beauvillier was a first-round pick by the New York Islanders (No. 28) in the 2015 NHL Draft. The 27 year old has recorded 271 points in 631 regular season games over his career.
He scored an NHL career-high 21 goals in 2017-18, then had 28 points (18 goals, 10 assists) the following season, helping the Islanders reach the second round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
He's played for five different teams before landing in Washington this past March at the trade deadline.
We'll see if Beauvillier and that top line can continue to produce in Game 2 against his hometown Canadiens on Wednesday night at the Capital One Arena in Washington.
Puck drop is set for 7pm.
