Evgeny Malkin and Sidney Crosby gave their honest reaction to the new record made by Alex Ovechkin on Sunday.

That entire moment felt like the culmination of two decades of not just dominance but also legacy building and the reactions from Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby were as emotional as you'd expect from two players who've lived that journey alongside Alex Ovechkin.
«I'm glad I played against him 20 years,» said Malkin, drafted second overall in 2004 after Ovechkin was taken first overall.

«Every year he is in the best shape, he never stops. Bad time, good time, he finds a way to score. If you play 20 years and score 40 goals every year, you're still not breaking the record. He's amazing.»

Both he and Crosby have been tied to Ovechkin since the very beginning and have drafted around him, battled against him and helped define an era that will go down as one of the NHL's most iconic.
The mutual respect between all three is evident.
And Evgeny Malkin's quote was classic Geno:
«He loves hockey so much. This guy, he's not a typical player,» Malkin said.

«He does not work out every day. He does not eat healthy. But he just loves hockey, and we see what's going on, like every year, probably not a lot guys believe this year he will break the record. Maybe next year, you know? But in 60 games, he's scored 42 goals already? It's huge.

«He's a great player and I hope he has no injuries, stays healthy and maybe he scores 900 goals.»

That's the charm of Ovechkin with his raw talent, passion and joy to play the game.
He has never lost his love for scoring goals or celebrating them like they're his first.
It's been one hell of a ride watching these three and it's not over yet.
