Hockey world saddened by tragic passing of former 1st round pick

The hockey world is mourning the tragic passing of former first round NHL'er Scott Metcalfe who unfortunately leaves us at just 58 years old.
The NHLPA came out with a public statement today, announcing the tragic news. During his tenure in the NHL, Metcalfe played for the Buffalo Sabres and the Edmonton Oilers.

"The NHL Alumni Association is deeply saddened to learn Scott Metcalfe has passed away at the age of 58.

According to Canucks Daily, Metcalfe's professional career began in 1987 when he joined the Edmonton Oilers' American Hockey League affiliate in Nova Scotia, while also making two appearances at the NHL level with the club that season.
During his first professional season, the Edmonton Oilers traded Metcalfe to the Buffalo Sabres and he'd go on to spent parts of the next four seasons with their organization before leaving North America in 1991.
"It's a terribly sad day for the organization. Scott had this larger-than-life personality about him, and it resonated with Amerks fans all over Rochester. It's easy to see why he was such a fan favorite. He wore the red, white and blue proudly every night, was the ultimate competitor and a consummate professional who always put his teammates and the organization first. He did so much for the community, even well after his retirement, and to this day called Rochester his home. He was absolutely beloved in the locker room and will be truly missed. My heart goes out to his wife, Jane, and their children, Tanner, Quinn and Keegan, and all that knew him within the local hockey community during this unimaginably difficult time." Metcalfe's former teammate Jody Gage said in the Rochester Americans' press release.
