Hurricanes goalie Frederik Anderson practices for the first time after suffering an injury in Game 4 of the first-round against the New Jersey Devils.

Hurricanes goalie Frederik Anderson is nearing a return to play.

Michael Whitaker from Yardbarker writes that Carolina suffered an injury scare in Game 4 of their series against the Devils when goaltender Frederik Andersen was forced to leave after a collision with New Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier. Pyotr Kochetkov stepped in and earned the win in that game, as well as in the series-clinching Game 5.
"The good news for the Hurricanes is that Andersen has returned to practice. He skated with the rest of his teammates on Friday and later said that he was feeling good, via NHL.com." -Whitaker

So far in the playoffs, Andersen has been outstanding, posting a 3-1 record with a 1.59 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.
«You never want to leave a game in the middle of a playoff series. Obviously, we were still able to close out the win there. Happy about that, but obviously it [stinks] not being able to be out there.» -Anderson

Whitaker also writes that wow in his fourth season with Carolina, Andersen missed 39 games during the 2024-25 regular season due to a knee injury sustained in October that ultimately required surgery. In his 22 appearances, he recorded a 13-8-1 record with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.
"So far in his NHL career, Andersen has earned a postseason record of 41-31 with a 2.42 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage, and three shutouts." -Whitaker

Andersen and the Hurricanes will now face the Washington Capitals, who also advanced with a five-game series win over the Montreal Canadiens. The NHL has yet to announce the start date for the second-round matchup.
