Important update on Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren

In case you missed it - minutes before the game, the Caps' annoucned Lindgren would be unavailable for Game 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Sources have confirmed that while the team hit the ice for practice today, Lindgren was still absent.

Back in December, Charlie and his wife Mikkayla announced they we're expecting their first child.

While it's yet to be confirmed that this was indeed the reason for Lindgren's absence, the timelines matchup - and one can only assume that Charlie stepped away from the team to support his wife an be present for the big moment.

In relief for Lindgren came 3rd string goalie Mitchell Gibson who stepped in during a crucial moment.

According to RMNB, Gibson has been a backup at the NHL level previously for one game, signing an amateur tryout contract with the Capitals in 2023 after Lindgren came down with an illness. Darcy Kuemper finished the April 2 game against the New York Rangers without issue, leaving Gibson on the bench.

Just now, head coach Spencer Carbery reported that Charlie Lindgren will be available for Game 3 and will travel with the team to Raleigh.

Thankfully, Lingren's absence from the team was short lived. The Capitals backup goaltender will be ready for Game 3 in Carolina.
