Insider claims the Washington Capitals will likely re-sign Anthony Beauvillier
After a disappointing end to the season, the Washington Capitals head into the NHL offseason looking to make strategic improvements to their roster. One of the bright spots for the Caps' this offseason was Anthony Beauvillier, and it appears that GM Chris Patrick will look to offer him a contract extension in the coming weeks.
In the first round against the Montreal Canadiens, Anthony Beauvillier stepped up in a big way, recording 5 points and emerging as one of the Capitals to offensive performers.
After being acquired at the trade-deadline for a second-round pick, Beauvillier came to DC with relatively low expectations, but quickly cemented himself as one of the best players on the roster.
Now, all sings point to Beauvillier sticking with the team a little while longer.
Anthony Beauvillier will likely be re-signed this offseason
According to
Nova Caps, the 27-year-old is the most likely of Washington's unrestricted free agents to re-sign with the Capitals, Beauvillier was healthy scratched for a regular-season game but fit in well with two goals and five points in 18 after getting acquired from Pittsburgh on March 7.
He performed well in the postseason with two goals and six points and was an extremely valuable utility player, playing all over the forward lineup (including on the Capitals' top line). While the fit is there for both the team and player, there are kids knocking on the door for a bigger role come the fall so it would be understandable if the sides part ways.
Has Anthony Beauvillier earned a long-term contract extension with the Washington Capitals? Time will tell.
