Lars Eller's 2024-25 season report card

One month into the season, Washington Capitals traded for Lars Eller, in an attempt to shore-up their third-line center position. Unfortunately, the 13th overall pick in the 2007 draft would not find his game.
In the 53 games following his trade to Washington, Eller scored 6 goals and 9 assists, for 15 points, and was a -1 in goal differential, averaging 12:27 of ice time per game.
Lars Eller has disappointing 2024-25 NHL campaign
The 35 year old, who was part of the 2018 Stanley Cup winning team, recorded only 1 assist in the 2024-25 playoffs, well below expectations, leading to him being scratched in game 5 of the second round versus Carolina.
However, Lars did finish the season with a team leading CORSI percentage of 54.12 at 5v5, and 54.21% expected goals, with a high-danger chances percentage of 56.33, as per Natural Stat Trick.
Eller's stats would decline in the playoffs, with a CORSI of 38.89, 45.96% expected goals, and 45.83% in high danger chances.
Lars Eller was clearly not the same player who played the role of hero seven year ago in 2018, when he scored with 7:37 remaining in the 3rd period of game 5, to clinch the Stanley Cup.
Lars Ellers' performance in the 2024-25 season warrants a failing grade of D.
"It is what it is, whether you like it or not " Eller said of his reduced ice-time in the 2nd round of the playoffs versus the Canes, where he averaged only 10:45. "I think if you ask every player, they would like to play more. Every one, even Ovi."
In his career, the 6'2', 208 pound Eller has played in 1116 games, scoring 188 goals and 236 assists, for 424 points, with a -30 in plus/minus.
Lars was the first player born, raised and trained in Denmark to be selected in the first round of the NHL draft, by St. Louis in 2007, and 13th overall.
"It's kind of been like this from the beginning when I got here (November)," Eller said of his situation in Washington. "You're given a job and a task and you try to do your best with that. But it's not reasonable to expect to have production and scoring as I have done prior because the role is vastly different."
In 2017-18, Eller had a career-best 18 goals and 38 points.
