Latest update on Aliaksei Protas' skate blade injury

For those who missed it, Aliaksei Protas had a run-in with Chicago Blackhawks Wyatt Kaiser, whose skate made contact with Protas' left foot.

NHL analyst Tom Gulitti later confirmed the nature of the injury following Alexander Ovechkin's locker room celebration.

In the locker room, the 23-year-old was spotted with a bandage on his foot and was limping around cautiously -- a grim sight, especially with the 2025 postseason right around the corner.

According to Spencer Carbery, the Washington Capitals plan to assess his condition again on Saturday, Washington's day off, ahead of their highly anticipated matchup against the New York Islanders.

While we don't know the severity of the cut yet, insider Tom Gulitti has confirmed the injury, and we'll get a better understand of Protas' status later today.

Given that Aliaksei Protas was barely putting weight on his foot in the locker room, it's unlikely he'll be available tomorrow.
