Washington Capitals veteran Nic Down is feeling the positives today following signing a two-year contract extension worth $3 million AAV per season.
To make the moment even more special, Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery shared the news with the entire team after the morning skate, delivering a heartfelt announcement in front of Dowd's teammates.
Hilariously, Nic Dowd reacted to Carbery's announcement by cracking open a cold one chugged it in front of his teammates, sparking cheers and laughter all around.
Nic Dowd chugs beer after signing contract extension
Spencer Carbery: This one's not about you, O! He has poured his heart and soul giving everything he has to this organization over the last seven years of his career. And pretty special to be able to retire a Capital.
(Carbery then puts up an image of Nic Dowd on the video board)
(The Capitals give a standing ovation to Nic Dowd)
(Dowd nods and then cracks open a beer and starts drinking as the team chants «Judy!»)
What a hilarious reaction from Nic Dowd!
While the whole interaction sparked laughter from all the Capitals, it's great to see how much his teammates and the organization value the work he's put in over these last seven years.
According to RMNB, the most notable thing here, beyond Dowd chugging what appears to be a Coors and doing some day drinking, is Carbery's comment that the checking-line centerman will «be able to retire a Capital.» Dowd, who signed the deal at age 34, turns 35 in May and will be 37 at the end of this contract.
Congratulations to Nic Dowd on this well-deserved contract extension.
