Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin delivered a memorable performance in Thursday night's regular-season finale, displaying their legendary talent during the Pittsburgh Penguins' 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals.

Following Thursday's game, Penguins stars' Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin surprise Alex Ovechkin with a gift for breaking the all-time record.

Will Graves of Yahoo Sports writes that Ovechkin capped off his historic season by scoring his 897th career goal in the second period, while Crosby wrapped up his 20th NHL season with a goal and an assist, marking the ninth time he's surpassed 90 points in a season.
"Ovechkin's 44th goal of the season moved him three clear of Wayne Gretzky, whose career record Ovechkin smashed earlier this month. Clay Stevenson made 33 saves in his NHL debut." -Graves

Bailey Johnson took to X following the game and had this to share...
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin just met with Alex Ovechkin outside the locker room and gave him a gift. When I asked him what they gave him, he looked at me like I was insane and just said, «Puck.»

They actually gave him a Rolex.
Pittsburgh honored Ovechkin with a tribute video celebrating his achievement as the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer. He skated to center ice to acknowledge the crowd, which showed its appreciation with a brief «Ovi» chant, a gesture of respect for a longtime rival.
CLASSY! Much love Geno and Sid!
Crosby is set to turn 38 this summer, but he's still playing at an elite level. Penguins GM Kyle Dubas will be busy this offseason looking to improve the roster and get the team back into contention while Crosby remains a force, something that, based on his current play, could continue for a while yet.
Washington locked up a playoff berth weeks ago. The last time they met Montreal in the postseason was back in 2010, when the eighth-seeded Canadiens pulled off a stunning upset over the Presidents' Trophy-winning Capitals in the first round.
The Capitals will kick off their pursuit of a second Stanley Cup on Monday, when they face off against the Montreal Canadiens in the opening round of the playoffs.
