Just over a week after becoming the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer, Washington Capitals standout Alex Ovechkin is set for one final matchup this season against Pittsburgh Penguins icon Sidney Crosby.

During his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Monday, Ovechkin looked back on how his relationship with the longtime Penguins captain has developed over the years.
Wes Crosby took to X on Wednesday to share Sid's comments whena asked how his relationship has evolved with Ovechkin over recent years.
Sidney Crosby said his friendship with Alex Ovechkin has grown through League events: "You develop a friendship through those experiences and things like that. So, I think it's been great. We've been at it a long time. So, it's nice to have a relationship like that." #Pens #Caps
Here's what Ovechkin had to say about Crosby when asked about their growing relationship over the years on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Monday.
«The first couple of years was not that good, but right now we talk, congratulate each other if we hit some milestones,» -Ovechkin.

Antonio Losada from Athlon Sports writes that Ovechkin talked about how their former intense rivalry has evolved into a relationship built on mutual respect, as both have accomplished so much while competing at the highest level in the NHL.

At 39 years old, Ovechkin heads into the final week of the regular season with 896 career goals, having added his most recent on Sunday.
On the other hand, 37-year-old Crosby has tallied 89 points in 79 games this season. He secured his 20th straight season averaging at least a point per game on March 27, surpassing Wayne Gretzky's record streak of 19.
«What we did to NHL, it's a tremendous thing. People gonna talk about Crosby and Ovechkin, Pittsburgh and Washington for maybe 20 or 50 more years, and it's great. So yeah, it's a battle, but it's a friendship right now.» -Ovechkin
After yet another dominant campaign for both players, it's only fitting that they end their seasons facing off against each other. Hopefully, it won't be the last time we see both legends faceoff.
