Should the Washington Capitals reunite with a former player?

That is a question to ponder this offseason as it has been reported that defensemen Dmitry Orlov is unlikely to be re-signed by the Carolina Hurricanes making Dmitry Orlov an unrestricted free agent that will likely end his time with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Dmitry Orlov's price tag might not cheap as Orlov is coming off of a two-year $15.5 million contract that he had signed with the Carolina Hurricanes back in the summer of 2023.
Per AFP Analytics, Dmitry Orlov's next contract will be about a three-year deal round $5.8 million per season
According to Frankie Corrado of TSN, Dmitry Orlov is listed as the 13th best available free agent on the market once free agency begins on July 1st.
Dmitry Orlov is coning off of a 6 goal and 22 assists campaign his 76 regular games, but Orlov's defense proved pivotal helping lead the Carolina Hurricanes to the Eastern Conference Finals before falling to eventual Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers.
During the Carolina Hurricanes - Washington Capitals Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup Dmitry Orlov was all over the ice helping to shutdown a potent Washington Capitals offense that simply couldn't get going in the entire series.
If the price tag for Dmitry Orlov is affordable a potential reunion between Orlov and his fellow Russian countrymen Alex Ovechkin on the Washington Capitals would be perfect. Especially if the 2025-26 NHL season happens to be the last in Ovechkin's storied career.

Dmitry Orlov will be a sought after free agent

Prior to the two seasons in Carolina with the Hurricanes Dmitry Orlov played 23 games with the Boston Bruins following a midseason trade with the Washington Capitals.
Dmitry Orlov would play parts of 11 seasons with the Washington Capitals Orlov would play in 686 games and would have 60 goals and 196 assists.
A reunion between the Washington Capitals and Dmitry Orlov would definitely be intriguing.
