Big Trade involving a former Washington Capitals player

The Seattle Kraken are looking to be contenders next season by making a few moves prior to free agency to bolster their lineup.

Following trading for Mason Marchment on Thursday, the the Seattle Kraken have traded away André Burakovsky to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Chicago Blackhawks center Joe Veleno.

In part of the deal, the Chicago Blackhawks will take on the full $5.5 million that was owed to Burakovsky.

Prior to playing for the Seattle Kraken André Burakovsky played for the Colorado Avalanche. Washington Capitals fans fondly remember André Burakovsky's time in Washington where he played for the Capitals from 2014-2019 and would win the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018.

In the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs as a member of the Colorado Avalanche André Burakovsky would win his 2nd Stanley Cup.

André Burakovsky gives the Chicago Blackhawks veteran leadership who in 696 career NHL games has 153 goals and 234 assists.

Coming to the Seattle Kraken from the Chicago Blackhawks is center Joe Veleno.
Joe Veleno was a traded by the Detroit Red Wings to the Chicago Blackhawks at this past season's trade deadline making his tenure with the Blackhawks brief.

In 18 games with the Chicago Blackhawks Joe Veleno would score 3 goals and 4 assists which almost matched his total with the Detroit Red Wings prior to the trade. In 56 games with the Detroit Red Wings, Joe Veleno would only have 5 goals and 5 assists.

In his NHL career mostly with the Detroit Red Wings, Joe Veleno had 38 goals with 43 assists in 306 career NHL games.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Seattle Kraken are both coming off of lackluster seasons in which both teams failed to make the playoffs.
