Spencer Carbery gives high praise to Carolina Hurricanes defenceman
The Washington Capitals' season has become to tough a disappointing close, as the Carolina Hurricanes proved to be too much for Spencer Carbery's squad. Despite the loss, Carbery singled out one opposing player for high praise during his end press conference - defenceman Jacob Slavin.
After finishing first overall in the Eatsern Conference, expectations for the Capitals were understandably high heading into the playoffs. But in the second round, the Hurricanes showed why they're a serious Stanley Cup contender.
Rod Brind'Amour group executed nearly flawless hockey. Their goaltending was rock solid, but what stood out most was the defensive play - especially from Jacob Slavin, who was dominant throughout the series.
In his post-series remarks, Spencer Carbery didn't hold back his remarks, calling Slavin one of the most impactful players on the ice and a major reason for Carolina's success.
Spencer Carbery has high-praise for Slavin
According to
Athlon Sports, Carbery did not hold back his opinion on the 31-year-old veteran. "Another shout out, because he doesn't get enough credit... but Slavin is, how he's not in the Norris Trophy conversation every single year, it doesn't seem right... He's one heck of a player."
One fan wrote, "Lots of respect for Carbury and a good coach." One fan wrote, "class act. love that guy." One X user added, "I just gained so much respect for Carbery after that post game presser."
Another fan complained, "Because the Norris has become a 'which defenseman scores a billion points» award.'"
Personally, I would be inclined to agree with Carbery. Jacob Slavin should be in the conversation for the Norris Trophy - and it's ridiculous he hasn't won one yet!
