The Washington Capitals have been eliminated from the postseason, but that doesn't mean hockey is finished. According to sources, Caps' defenceman Rasmus Sandin will be joining Team Sweden at the IIHF World Championships.
Stockholm will be the main location for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with Sweden's group stage, and Ramus Sandin has the incredible honour of represnting his country - in his home country!
While the Washington Capitals failed to move to the Eastern Conference Final, Rasmus Sandin's solid play on the blue line earned him consideration for the prestigious IIHF Tournament.
According to RMNB, Sandin played in all 92 regular season and playoff games for the Capitals this year, posting 30 points (4g, 26a) and averaging 19:11 of ice time per game during the regular season. He played the majority of the year on the team's top pairing with John Carlson, posting great numbers at five-on-five. With the two on the ice, the Caps saw 53.8 percent of expected goals and 53.1 percent of high-danger chances.
In a recent interview, Sandin highlighted the significance of improving over the offseason.
«I felt like I took big steps playing without the puck,» Sandin said at Breakdown Day on Saturday. «Just playing in a smarter way, using my stick more, using my feet more. Happy with that part. I feel like I still have some ways to go with the puck and also without the puck, so there's still ways to improve, which I'm happy with. Something to work on this summer and get back stronger for next year.»
Everyone here at Washington Capitals insider would like to congratulate Ramus Sandin on this incredible honour.
