The Washington Capitals are gearing up for a heated Game 5 showdown against the Carolina Hurricanes, but new development has thrown a wrench in the Caps' lineup. According to sources, backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren could unavailable due to personal reasons. In response, the Washington Capitals have re-called goaltender Clay Stevenson from the Hershey Bears.

According to Capitals Insider Tom Gulitti, Charlie Lindgren skated this morning but he is dealing with a personal family matter, so some question whether he'll be available in back up for Capitals tonight. The team has four goalies on roster after recalling Clay Stevenson this morning with Mitchell Gibson practicing too.
Additionally, Logan Thompson did not participate in the morning skate today, but insiders confirm he will be available for tonight's game.

Charlie Lindgren could be unavailable for Game 5 due to personal reasons

Back in December, Charlie and his wife Mikkayla announced they we're expecting their first child.
While it's yet to be confirmed that this was indeed the reason for Lindgren's potential absence, the timelines matchup - and one can only assume that Charlie stepped away from the team to support his wife an be present during this important time.
In relief for Lindgren comes Clay Stevenson, who was just re-called from the Hershey Bears this morning.
While goaltender Logan Thompson is undoubtedly the starting goaltender tonight for Game 5, Charlie Lindgren's status remains unknown.
Although Lindgren skated this morning, he's made it very clear that there's a 50/50 chance he will suit up.
That said, the backup goaltending job will belong to either Mitchell Gibson or Clay Stevenson.
If I had to guess, I'd say Clay Stevenson is the likely choice. He's already got an NHL game under his belt and has put up solid numbers with the Hershey Bears.
If something were to happen to Logan Thompson, I think most fans would agree - Stevenson is the go-to option for relief in net.
More details to follow.
