Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has quickly become a fan favourite in Montreal, and not for the right reasons.
Wilson has strong words for Montreal's Bell Centre atmosphere in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The hard-nosed Washington Capitals forward has definitely left his mark on this first-round series, especially in his clashes with Canadiens forward Josh Anderson, and regrettably, with Canadiens defenseman Alexandre Carrier after knocking him out of Sunday's Game 4.
It's no secret that Canadiens fans aren't exactly fond of Tom Wilson. But during a recent media scrum, the Capitals forward offered a surprising take, sharing his honest, and unexpectedly respectful, thoughts about the Montreal fanbase. Wilson admitted he was extremely impressed by the Bell Centre's atmosphere.
"It's one of the best arenas in the National Hockey League for a reason. It's very loud, the fans are true, passionate die-hards. It's one of those places you love playing in as a player. These are the kind of moments I'll remember when my career is over, but you've got to keep your emotions in check." -Wilson
While the hit on Carrier is still a tough one to swallow for Canadiens' fans, Wilson's comments do validate why Montreal is one of the greatest hockey cities in the world.
The Capitals will look to close out the series tonight in front of their home crowd. Game 5 between the Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens is set for 7:00pm from Capital One Arena.
