Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin receives a heart warming ovation from school kids during the team's practice on Wednesday after breaking the all-time goal record.

After entire Capitals team saluted the 895 school kids here, they pushed Alex Ovechkin forward for individual recognition and then encouraged another sliding belly flop
Capitals captain
Alexander Ovechkin netted his
895th career goal, surpassing the legendary Wayne Gretzky for the most NHL goals in a 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders Sunday afternoon.
This beautiful moment gives reason to believe why Ovechkin is the leading candidate to win the
Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy at the end of the NHL season.
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.
The nomination isn't much of a surprise considering that Ovechkin broke the record with his 42nd goal of the season at 39 years old.
After breaking his leg in November, a lot of fans doubted whether Ovechkin would still be able to break the record after such a hot start to the season, but once again proved why he's the greatest goal scorer in the history of the NHL.
Gretzky finished his career with 894 goals in 1,487 games over 20 NHL seasons. Ovechkin, meanwhile, has 895 goals in 1,487 games over his 20 NHL seasons.
Ovechkin has clearly shown no signs of slowing down throughout his incredible career.
