The first-round playoff matchups in the NHL are officially set, but physically, the Washington Capitals look anything but ready.

The Washington Capitals will need all hands on deck heading into Monday's playoff opener-- but unfortunately, several key players remain sidelined with injuries.
During today's morning skate, a noticeable number of players were absent, raising serious concerns ahead of Game 1.
Washington Capitals coach Spencer Carbery addressed the media afterward, offering a vague and cautious update on the team's health.

Spencer Carbery provides injury update

«I'll just preface injuries with this: we've got guys working through some things. Some guys skating. Some not skating," Carbery said. "I'm just going to leave it as, we've got a bunch of guys working through some things, progressing, potentially playing on Monday, potentially not."

Here's what we know so far:
Matt Roy and John Carlson both missed practice due to illness.
Aliaksei Protas remains out indefinitely with a skate blade injury.
Martin Fehervary is dealing with an ankle injury and did not skate today.
Logan Thompson took the ice but is still unavailable due to an undisclosed injury.
Jakob Chychrun left practice early after taking a puck to the face.
Needless to say, things aren't looking great for the Capitals right now-- physically, they're limping into the postseason.
As Carbery put it, some players are "dealing with some things" and could be available-- but with multiple key names missing practice this close to Monday's matchup against the Habs, the outlook is concerning.
As a precaution, the Washington Capitals have recalled defenceman Ethan Bear from their AHL affiliate in Hershey-- but his status for Monday's playoff opener remains uncertain.
For now, Capitals fans are holding their breath, anxiously waiting to see what the Game 1 official lineup will look like.
More details to follow.
