Alex Ovechkin opened up the scoring in the first with a perfect shot from his office to beat Sam Montembeault and take a 1-0 lead in the first period.
Just 15 days after breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record, Ovechkin scored his second goal of the game 3:26 into overtime, lifting the Eastern Conference's top-seeded Capitals to a 3-2 win after they squandered a two-goal lead in the third period.
Wilson, known for his physicality, did what he had to do to set the tone early for the Capitals.

Here's what Wilson had to say following his team's overtime victory...
"We know the blueprint. We know the recipe. We just got to be a little more consistent with it no matter what the circumstance out there."

The Canadiens will have their hands full trying to contain the greatest goal scorer in hockey history throughout the rest of series.

Game 2 is set for Wednesday night in Washington, before the series moves to Montreal for Games 3 and 4 on Friday and Sunday.
