The Washington Capitals have defeated the Montreal Canadiens in just 5 games, and the next stage of their playoff push is set in stone
In a thrilling matchup, the Capitals have defeated by the Habs by a score of 4-1, and the team now turns their attention to the Carolina Hurricanes.
If they do, they'll advance to the second round to face the Carolina Hurricanes who eliminated the New Jersey Devils in five games with a 5-4 double-overtime victory Tuesday night.
The Hurricanes are well-rested, healthy and motivated for round 2 and Rob Brind'Amour and his group showed resilience by coming back from a 3-0 deficit in Game 5 and winning on Sebastian Aho's power-play goal in double overtime.
The Carolina Hurricanes also have a near-perfect penalty kill from Round 1 and contributions up and down the lineup during all those 5 games.
Carolina has made the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons and has won a round each time and with Taylor Hall signed to a three-year extension and goaltender Frederik Andersen recovering well, the Canes are looking for another deep run.
